I am trying to get a file using command prompt ftp from

my system running Windows XP Pro to a laptop with an ftp

site running Windows 2000. I do not have an ftp site on

the XP system.

quote:

>ftp 192.168.0.101

> ftp: connect :Unknown error number

Both systems are local on my router. I can ping both

systems from either system.

I cannot even ftp to the XP system from the same (should

get a message).

Both systems have been restarted.

I have done this repeatedly before but now get the

subject error message. The only change has been to

install Security Update for Microsoft Data Access

Components (KB832483) on my XP system. No changes to

router.

Thanks for any help.

Check the FTP logs and Event Viewer on the IIS machine (the Windows

2000 laptop) and also check to see that the FTP service is running on

      the laptop.

It could be a problem with your router. The best way to check would be

to bypass the router and connect the XP machine to the laptop using a

crossover cable. If this works and you can successfully connect and

transfer files then you can say for certain that the problem is with

      the router.

Check that the router isn't blocking ports 20 and 21 to the laptop.
